NOW IS THE TIME! OPEN ENROLLMENT IS

November 1st - November 14th

Whether you are a newly hired employee or a current employee, elections you make at this time will remain in effect until the next Open Enrollment period. This means you may not add, drop, or change your elections unless you have a Qualifying Life Event (QLE).

Who is eligible?

All regular status employees who work at least 20 hours per week are eligible for our full benefits program starting on their first day of employment. However, coverage for Life Insurance products will begin on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment. Additionally, all employees have access to the Employee Assistance Program without the need to enroll.

You are also able to enroll:

  • Your spouse (regardless of gender) or domestic partner (DP). Click here to learn important information about spousal coverage.
  • Your dependent children up to age 26.
  • Your disabled dependents.

Documentation is required for new dependents, click here for details on dependent verification requirements.

How do I make changes?

Because of ERISA, a federal law, once you choose your benefits, your selections remain in effect for the rest of the year. This includes changes from one medical or dental plan to another. The only exception to this rule is if you experience a Qualifying Life Event (QLE).

  • QLE's include marriage, divorce, legal separation, spouse's change of employment status, birth, or adoption of a child. Check with your Benefits Manager if you have a question about what constitutes a QLE.
  • If you have a QLE and want to make changes to your benefits, you must go into UKG and create a life event. Notify your Benefits Manager within 30 days of the event via the Service Desk portal.

Should I enroll in more than one health plan?

Coordination of benefits applies if you are covered by more than one health plan. This practice ensures that insurance claims are not paid multiple times, and that the payments from both plans do not exceed 100% of the covered charges. Insurance companies work together to share the cost without overpaying.

It’s up to you to decide if having dual coverage is financially advantageous. Contact your Benefits Manager for further information.

What are my options if my coverage ends?

If your Mercy Housing health coverage ends - such as after termination, a reduction in hours below 20 per week, or when a dependent child turns 26 - you may be eligible to continue your benefits through COBRA. With COBRA, you pay the full premium cost. You’ll receive forms to elect coverage and have 60 days from the qualifying event to enroll. Contact your Benefits Manager for rates and more information.

ABOUT THIS GUIDE: Actual plan provisions for Mercy Housing (“the Company”) benefits are contained in the appropriate plan documents, including the Summary Plan Description (SPD) and incorporated benefit/carrier booklets. The Digital Benefits Hub is a summary only and does not describe each benefit option. This Digital Benefits Hub provides updates to your existing SPD as of the first day of plan year, which describes your health and welfare benefits in greater detail. Until the Company provides you with an updated SPD, this guide is intended to be a Summary of Material Modification (SMM) and should be retained with your records along with your SPD. As always, the official plan documents determine what benefits are available to you. If any discrepancy exists between this guide and the official documents, the official documents will prevail. The Company reserves the right to amend or terminate any of its plans or policies, make changes to the benefits, costs, and other provisions relative to benefits at any time with or without notice, subject to applicable law.
