Family & Caregiver Leave
Parental Leave
Mercy Housing believes all parents should have paid time away from work to welcome a child into their family. We offer paid Parental Leave to support employees as they build their families and career at Mercy Housing. Your child must be born, adopted, or placed January 1, 2025, or later. Employees may take up to 6 weeks of paid Parental Leave which is available to both the birthing and non-birthing parent.
Caregiver Leave
Mercy Housing knows that many of our employees will become a caregiver at some point in their career and that caregiving takes on many forms. In an effort to support those balancing the dual roles of caregiver and team member, we offer paid Caregiver Leave. Employees may take up to 2 weeks of paid Caregiver Leave to care for a loved one with a serious medical condition on or after January 1, 2025.
Mercy Housing will administer overlapping federal, state, or local benefits concurrently with leave under the Parental Leave and Caregiver Leave policies. For more information contact your Leave Coordinator.
Personal Leave & Compassion Time
Leave of Absence
Mercy Housing has many types of Leaves of Absence that can accommodate employees who may need extended time off work. We have specific policies and procedures in place that include compliance with the laws that govern the Leaves of Absence available.
In the event that you require a Leave of Absence, please contact your Leave Coordinator for assistance with Leave of Absence information and appropriate forms that will be required. Leaves should be requested at least 30 days prior to your need for time off work. See the Employee Handbook for policy information.
Bereavement
Mercy Housing grants you 3 days of paid leave to attend a funeral and to make necessary arrangements due to the death of an immediate family member (plus one additional day if travel is needed). You are granted one day off with pay to allow you to attend a funeral for a person who is not your immediate family member. See the Employee Handbook for policy information.
Important Note
In the event of unpaid time off from work, such as personal leave or Family Medical Leave (FML), it is the employee’s responsibility to ensure their portion of health premiums are paid and current. Failure to keep premiums current can result in cancellation of benefits.
Colleague Support Leave
Paid Time Off (PTO) Donations
Mercy Housing has set up a PTO Donation Fund so employees can donate a portion of their PTO for fellow employees facing personal or family hardship. PTO donations are confidential and voluntary, credited to a general fund and awarded to eligible recipients by a review committee. The minimum contribution is 8 hours, up to 40 hours per donor. You may not donate more than 50% of your available PTO balance and must retain at least 5 days for your own use.
Requesting Aid from the PTO Fund
If you or an immediate family member experiences a health-related emergency or personal crisis, you may request aid from the PTO Fund by submitting the PTO Donation Fund Request Form through your Leave Coordinator or the Service Desk portal. To qualify, you must have exhausted your personal PTO and applied for Workers’ Compensation or leave as permitted by Mercy Housing and/or the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
ABOUT THIS GUIDE: Actual plan provisions for Mercy Housing (“the Company”) benefits are contained in the appropriate plan documents, including the Summary Plan Description (SPD) and incorporated benefit/carrier booklets.
